A Riverside man wanted on a warrant for grand theft was arrested in

Costa Mesa Friday on suspicion of drunk driving, leaving the scene of an

accident and more.

Police apprehended Michael McGinness, 36, after the suspect allegedly

committed a series of hit-and-runs that left one pedestrian badly

injured. McGinness was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the

influence, causing injury, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a

suspended license and for his outstanding arrest warrant from Riverside

County, said Sgt. Mike Ginther.

At 4:28 p.m., McGinness reportedly hit Costa Mesa resident Nirola

Semerdjiev at the corner of El Camino Drive and Fairview Road. The

80-year-old pedestrian was admitted to Hoag Hospital for a broken right

leg and hip.

Officers also witnessed McGinness’ white Chevrolet truck drive into a

fire hydrant at Fairview Road and Adams Avenue before colliding with a

parked van on Baker Street, Ginther said.

McGinness was booked into Costa Mesa City Jail and bail was set at

$65,000.
