Men’s water polo: Anteaters take eighth

Despite going on a late run, the UC Irvine men’s water polo team

was defeated by UC Santa Barbara, 5-4, in the seventh-place game of the

Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament in Berkeley Sunday.

The Anteaters scored two goals late in the third period to cut the

Gauchos’ lead to one. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and UC

Santa Barbara pulled out the victory.

Trevor Spence made 12 saves for the Gauchos while Doug Finfrock made

seven for the Anteaters.

Garrett Gentry, a Corona del Mar High product, scored two goals and

Chris Kirchwehm and Dreason Barry each scored one for UCI.
