Girls basketball: Sea Kings edged

Corona del Mar High lost its season opener to host El Toro, 48-42,

in a nonleague girls basketball game Tuesday.

The Chargers made half-court shot at the end of the third quarter to

take a 37-30 lead into the final quarter. Corona del Mar outscored El

Toro by one point in the fourth, but could not take the lead.

The Sea Kings (0-1) were led by Carrie Hawkins (10 points) and

Courtney Kawata (9 points). Kelly Luu contributed with eight rebounds.

Corona del Mar made 10 of 19 free-throw attempts.
