Allen third at Mt. SAC

Corona del Mar High senior Julie Allen turned in an 18:15 clocking

over a 3.1-mile course at Mt. San Antonio College Saturday to finish

third at the prestigious Kinney Cross Country Invitational, the stepping

stone to the Junior National Championships at Orlando, Fla. Dec. 8.

Allen, the CIF Division III champion, finished behind Amber Trotter of

Ukiah and New Mexico’s Felicia Gullford.

Trotter, ranked No. 1 in the nation, won with a blistering time of

17:14, while Gullford came in at 17:57.

Allen, who was 10th in the star-studded field after a slow initial

mile, eventually opened up a 50-yard lead over the pack, as she trailed

Trotter.
