Those who agree to go on trips with Newport legend Paul Salata know

that there is no telling where you could end up or what you could end up

doing. But one thing for sure, it’s always going to be something fun.

So recently, Salata gathered the gang from a couple groups, the Six

O’Clockers, who meet in the dawn hours at the Balboa Bay Club, and the

Friends of Salata for a trip to Santa Anita Race Track.

In the midst of betting on the ponies, Salata assembled the gang to

take a group picture with his favorite hometown newspaper, in the hopes

that he could convince us to publish it in our On Vacation photo feature.

Only problem was, he forgot to take along a copy of the Daily Pilot.

Instead, he grabbed a copy of the Daily Racing Forum and posed for the

camera. While a day trip to Santa Anita doesn’t quite qualify as a true

vacation, we always appreciate Salata’s creativity.

Watch the front of Glover’s house

Anyone looking for dirt on Newport Beach City Councilwoman Norma

Glover need look no farther than her front door.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, during a discussion about urban

runoff, the councilwoman offered up a confession that could scare off

even Avon ladies and Jehovah’s witnesses.

“I haven’t washed my walkway since we started preserving water a few

years ago,” she told the water-quality-conscious presenters at the

meeting. “I may have the dirtiest walkway in the county.”
