The Traffic Division of the Newport Beach Police Department will

conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday at the corner of Newport Boulevard at

Finley Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday.

The checkpoint location was selected based on DUI-related accidents or

arrests in the area, officials said. They said the location was picked

also because of the roadway configuration, traffic volume, lighting and

motorist safety and officer safety issues at that intersection.

The checkpoint will be clearly marked and vehicles will be selected to

move through the check lanes. Motorists will be greeted and given an

information brochure on driving while intoxicated created by the Newport

Beach Police Department Traffic Division. This checkpoint is being held

in collaboration with the Costa Mesa Police Department, officials said.
