Lightning slips past Diablos

In a battle between the first and last place teams in the Norris

Divisions, it took Stephen Marchand’s late goal to lift the front running

Lightning to a 4-3 victory.

The Diablos (1-7) battled to the end, getting two goals from leading

scorer Alec Fuller. Joshua Austin recorded 10 saves.

The Lightning (7-1) had balance receiving goals from Travis Beckman,

Clayton Handy and Michael Marchand. Beckman also led the way with a pair

of assists.

Nicholas Weldon stopped 10 shots on goal for the Lightning.

Slapshots 6, Red Wings 3

The Slapshots moved into second place in the division standings and

knocked the Red Wings out of first place in the process.

Dimitri Coutsoyannopolpous scored two goals, Robert Oliver had a goal

and an assist, Julien Laux, Zachery Dickson and Kyle Martins each scored

once, Avi Press had an assist and Corey DeMatteo had 10 saves to power

the Slapshots, now 6-2.

For the Red Wings, who fell to 5-2, Cody McWhirter scored twice, Alex

Litten had two assists, Rinald Hancock scored once and Darrell McDonald

had 11 saves.

Menehunes 7, Surf Dawgs 2

Cody Ferrer poured in three goals and added an assist, Matthew Kibler

scored twice, Blake Miller had a goal and two assists, Evan Zinger scored

once, Casidhe Kunichika and Kenneth Nguyen each had an assist and Aaron

Nguyen had 13 saves to lead the Menehunes (5-2-1).

The Surf Dawgs (3-5) received a goal and assist from Shaun Dolan and

Connor Cal Lathrope.

Avalanche 3, Badgers 1

Nicholas Modrak had a goal and an assist, Ian White and Kyle Quaid

scored, Shane Bieda had an assist and Matthew Inouye had 12 saves as the

Avalanche improved to 2-6-1.

Sean Froelich scored unassisted and Brett Shaver had 11 saves for the Badgers (2-5-1).

Thunder 3, Red Wings 3

The two teams tied through regulation play but the Thunder (2-3-3) won

in a shootout behind scores by Kevin Gast and Christopher Johnson.

Johnson also had two goals in regulation and Zachary Malloy scored once.

William DeWitt recorded 16 saves.

Alex Litten scored the only goal in the shootout session for the Red

Wings, who also received regulation goals by Corey Pack and Rinald

Hancock, assists by Cody McWhirter and Mitch Robinson and 11 saves by

Darrell McDonald.
