AYSO Region 97: Gyulay leads Lightning

Colton Gyulay scored two goals to lead the Lightning to a 3-0

victory over the Raptors in an AYSO Region 97 boys under-10 soccer game.

Ivan Becerra also scored with assists from Steven Miller and Sergio

Garcia. The midfield was patrolled by Wil Curiel, Mathew Di Francesco,

Drew Diller and Brecht Vanthof. The defense was anchored by Patrick

Briand, Marcos Urquiza and Miles Flanders. Goalkeeper John Ryder was

solid in the net.

In other games, the Lightning lost twice to the Blue Rebels, 4-0, and,

2-1, to finish in second place.

Sergio Garcia scored the only Lightning goal. The offense was anchored

by Gyulay, Becerra, Diller and Miller.

Contributing in midfield were Vanthof, Di Francesco and Curiel.

Urquiza, Flanders and Briand played defense.

In boys under-12 APP action:

* Newport Beach 6, Huntington Beach 2 - Taylor Friend, Adrian

Buonanoce, Jamie Galey, Garrett Heiser and Will Reichenstein contributed

to Newport’s victory. Also chipping in were Robbie Joslin, Otoniel

Garcia, Matt Josyln, Robby Gordon, Jeremy Anish, Jake Carroll, Nicholas

Sheffield and Calvin Jhunjhnuwala. Denny Perdomo is injured.

In girls under-10 action:

* Newport Beach Breakers 3, Corona del Mar 0 - With the victory,

Newport’s All-Star team won the gold medal in the inaugural Newport Beach

Thanksgiving Invitational. The Breakers won five games en route to the

championship, beating All-Star teams from Corona del Mar, Huntington

Beach, Culver City and Newport Beach by a combined score of 20-1.

Contributing to the victories for Coach Kirk McIntosh were McKenna

Cottam, Kasey DeYoung, Elizabeth Eddy, Zoya Farzaneh, Melissa

Fitzsimmons, Courtney Francis, Terra Friedman, Caroline Hardenbergh,
