AYSO Region 57: Sharks win league championship
The Mako Sharks defeated the Black Bullets, 4-0, and beat the
Hornets, 3-1, to win the AYSO Region 57 boys under-10 soccer league championship.
The Mako Sharks, who have won 15 straight games, were led by Chris
Freeman, Sebastien Welch and Nick Taormina.
Braydon Blackford, Ryan Peyton and Chandler Mitchell had solid
performances. Cameron Kopple, Ian Massoth, Taylor Battram, Saahm Aresh
and David Fenner protected the Sharks’ net.
In boys under-12 action:
* The Blue Torch burned Silver Wear in a shootout to win the
championship. The score was tied, 1-1, after regulation and overtime, but
the Blue Torch prevailed in the shootout, 3-2.
The Blue Torch’s Alexander Ray blocked three of five shots in the
shootout and scored in the shootout along with Brett Bartlett and Michael
Bloom.
During regulation, Silver Wear took an early lead with a goal from
Noah Molnar, who was assisted by Johny Heard. The Blue Torch answered in
the second half when Bloom maneuvered down the sideline for a goal to tie
the score, 1-1.
Preston Oklejas was strong in the net for the Blue Torch and was
supported by the defense of Bartlett, Taylor Guthrie and Eric Wright. The
midfield was dominated by the Blue Torch’s Max Rollins, Jon Kiani and
Eric Hansen.
Paul Bioche moved the ball consistently for Silver Wear, but was often
hindered by Alex May, David Broekelschen and Peter Broekelschen. Taylor
Keddington and Danny Baker had shots on goal in regulation, but Silver
Wear’s Jack Lansford stood steady in the net.
In girls under-10 action:
* The Lightning Bolts struck with precision in the AYSO Region 57
girls under-10 division title match, earning a victory in a shootout over
the previously undefeated Sparks Sunday.
After the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie, the Lightning Bolts received
goals from Claire Eadington and Kristen Couzens to win the shootout, 2-1.
Sophia Iovenitti made three saves in the shootout to preserve the
victory.
The Sparks, coached by Paul O’Conner, were led by Kelly Feeley, Sarah
Keddington, Kaylee O’Conner, Haylee Raguse and Bridget Fox.
On Saturday, the Lightning Bolts defeated the Shooting Stars in a
shootout to win the Girls Under-10 English League Championship.
The score was tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation, but the Lightning
Bolts came out on top in the shootout, 4-2.
Eadington scored early in the first half of regulation for the
Lightning Bolts, but Alexandra Reinach shined offensively and scored a
goal to tie the score for the Shooting Stars late in the second half.
Mara Schmidt, Eadington, Stacy Sanderson and Couzens scored in the
shootout for the Lightning Bolts, coached by George Eadington.
Paige Sigband, Couzens, Annika Gerken, Michelle Brescia and Duran
Sharp led the Lightning Bolts’ defense while Iovenitti was strong in the
net, making four saves in regulation and two in the shootout.
