CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High boys soccer team scored

two goals in the first five minutes of the second half to earn a 2-1 win

over visiting Calvary Chapel, in nonleague action Wednesday.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Jeritt Thayer scored off an

assist from senior team captain Andy Almquist in the 48th minute. Two

minutes later, CdM senior goalkeeper Geoff Collier booted a punt which

sailed over Calvary Chapel’s defense and sophomore Danny Whitaker tracked

down the loose ball to score a goal, giving the Sea Kings a 2-0 lead.

CdM’s defense was anchored by goalie Phil Stemler, who turned back

three shots in the first half, while Collier recorded two saves in the

final 45 minutes.

The Sea Kings (3-2) will resume action Friday at 3:15 p.m., when they

will play at Fountain Valley.
