White & Black Attack wins title
Despite not having as successful a regular season as some of its
league rivals, the White and Black Attack rose to the occasion in
postseason play and won a championship. They capped a terrific playoff
run that culminated in two successive wins over the Impact, the final one
being a 3-2 decision.
The first win over the previously undefeated Impact came in overtime
as Hayley Townsend, Briana Wall and Kaleigh Budd scored in a shootout to
lift the White and Black Attack to a 4-2 triumph.
That set up a winner-take-all match for the title that same day and
again, the teams went into overtime following a scoreless tie through
regulation play.
Alyson Gerondale, Erin Miller and Budd all scored goals in the
shootout, and Gerondale came up with key saves, as the White and Black
Attack posted a 3-2 victory.
First time coach Bob Byrnes and assistant coach Brian Wall led the
team to the championship. Members of the White and Black Attack also
include Lauren Martinez, Michelle Denny, Gina Byrnes, Aida Manzano, Megan
Lysenko, Nuran Tier, Beth Hipple and Kristin Stoyanova.
