College women’s basketball: Idaho State tops UCI, 69-60

POCATELLO, Idaho - For the second time in six days, Idaho State

defeated UC Irvine, 69-60, Thursday night in nonconference women’s

basketball action at Holt Arena.

Kim Martin came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points for

UCI, but it wasn’t enough as the Bengals won both ends of a home-and-home

series against the Anteaters (1-6).

Reserve Mandi Carver led Idaho State with 25 points and 22 rebounds,

becoming the first player to achieve a 20-20 game at the school since

Charly Bond had 28 points and 23 boards in a game Jan. 11, 1979.

Idaho State (5-4), which led at halftime, 28-23, was also led by

Cassie Bro’s 18 points and Jennifer Griffin’s 11.

Cindy Oparah scored 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for UCI,

while teammate Brandy Hudson came off the bench to score 10 points.

Martin was 7 of 11 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from three-point

territory.

At Irvine Saturday, Idaho State beat UCI in overtime, 84-76.
