Newport Beach is accepting applications for the proposed Harbor
Commission, expected to be established by the City Council through an
ordinance Jan. 8.
The primary role of the commission will be to advise the council on
matters relating to the use of the harbor, proposed harbor improvements
and land-use issues that may affect the harbor.
The newly established commission will consist of seven members to be
appointed by council members. Each will serve a four-year term.
If the ordinance is adopted, the commission will become active Feb. 7.
Nominations are scheduled to be made Feb. 12 and appointments are
expected to be announced Feb. 26.
Applicants must be residents of Newport Beach and be a registered
voter. Deadline for filing applications is 4 p.m. Jan. 17. Application
blanks and additional information can be obtained from the city clerk’s
