Local areas experienced light rain -- about a tenth of an inch --

beginning Friday morning.

The sprinkles were the result of a storm that moved in from the

Pacific Northwest, said meteorologist Dan Atkin with the National Weather

Service in San Diego.

They were expected to taper off through Friday night and clear out for

the weekend, he said.

“[Today] will be sunny with gusty winds of up to 20 miles per hour,”

Atkin said.

Temperatures will remain cool through today, he said.

“[Friday] has been much colder than normal,” Atkin said. “But that’s

normal when storms hit the area.”

No major incidents were reported in Newport-Mesa as a result of the

wet weather.
