PHOTO OF THE WEEK

You never know how things will turn out until you go out to an

assignment. Sometimes the best pictures come when least expected. In the

case of this week’s photo of the week, this rule is evident.

In the daily budget meeting it was predetermined to run a photo I

shot. It was a fun feature, but the options for visuals weren’t

overflowing. We was decided to run it as the main art, even though the

possibility of an evening assignment -- the Crystal Cove Christmas tree

lighting -- could produce better art.

As luck had it, the photo Don Leach shot of the tree lighting at

sunset was significantly better than my feature shot. But the better

picture ran smaller. It goes to show the difficulty of making decisions

about pictures sight unseen.
