Boys basketball: Mesa triumphs
Costa Mesa High came through in the final minutes to defeat Gahr,
50-46, in the consolation round of the Sonora/Troy boys basketball
tournament at Troy Saturday.
The Mustangs were trailing, 46-45, when Nolan Clark scored on a layup
with a pass from Danny Krikorian to put Costa Mesa ahead by one point.
Chad Vakili made a key block and scored two free throws to seal the
win for Costa Mesa (6-4).
David Conte had a game-high 20 points and four assists while Clark
chipped in with 12 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. Also
contributing to Mesa’s win was Carlos Jaime (six points, nine rebounds).
