Boys basketball: Sailors fall

Newport Harbor High rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit, but

couldn’t hang on and lost to Dos Pueblos, 49-47, in a nonleague boys

basketball game at UC Santa Barbara Saturday.

The Sailors went on a 14-7 run in the third, but never took the lead

in the fourth quarter.

Tony Melum scored 22 points and had 15 rebounds, but the Sailors had

29 turnovers in the game and made only five of 12 free throws.

Dos Pueblos made 15 of 19 free throws.

Also chipping in for the Sailors offensively was Chad Rorden with nine

points.

The Sailors fall to 7-3 while Dos Pueblos improves to 5-2.
