Boys basketball: Eagles triumph

Estancia High senior Fernando Maldonado scored 23 points to lead

the Eagles’ boys basketball team to a 59-53 victory over Garden Grove in

pool play of the Garden Grove North County Shootout Monday.

Maldonado also grabbed nine rebounds for the Eagles (4-4). Zack Novak

hit two free throws with six seconds left in the game to seal the victory

for Estancia.

Also contributing to the win were junior Joey Lindquist (15 points and

17 rebounds) and freshman Carlos Pinto (eight points).

Estancia faces Whittier Christian in pool play Wednesday at Western

High at 4:30 p.m.
