CORONA DEL MAR - Former Corona del Mar High girls tennis standout

Kimberly Singer has been accepted to Brown University and will play for

the Providence, R.I.-based Ivy League school next season, her father,

Gary, announced Tuesday.

Singer, who grew up playing at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club in

Newport Beach, is ranked in the top 20 in Southern California in the 18s

and is one of five nationally ranked players the Bears have recruited for

next season.

Singer, who did not play high school tennis this year after spending

three years in the CdM varsity program, decided to concentrate on

academics and private instruction her senior year. She selected Brown

over three other Ivy League schools: Dartmouth, Cornell and Pennsylvania.

Singer’s brother, Brian, is an engineering student at Brown, where the

tennis star plans to major in either prelaw or political science.

Singer will join former Newport-Mesa District athletes Katie Quinlan

(CdM track and cross country) and Robert Cole (Newport Harbor football)

at Brown. Cole plays rugby for the Bears and Quinlan is on the cross

country team.
