NEWPORT BEACH - The 2001 Southern California PGA Foundation Junior

Golf Tournament of Champions was held Monday at Newport Beach Country

Club, site of the Senior PGA Tour’s Toshiba Senior Classic in March.

Diamond Bar’s Daniel Cho, 15, shot 3-under-par 68 to win the boys

overall championship, while Orange’s Edward McGlasson, 18, captured first

place in the alumni division at 73 and Long Beach’s Andrew Elliott, 16,

won the boys 16-17 division at 71.

San Juan Capistrano’s Carling Cho, 17, won the girls 15-17 division at

74, winning by three strokes over runner-up Selanee Henderson of Apple

Valley. Irvine’s Angela Won, who will play at UC Irvine next year, was

third at 78.

The annual Tournament of Champions invites players based on individual

play throughout the SCPGA season. Juniors must have received a first

place or tied for first place in an SCPGA event in order to be invited to

the year-ending Tournament of Champions.

Costa Mesa’s Jason Cassidy shot 80 and finished tied for 16th in the

boys 16-17 division, while Newport Beach’s Nick Sherman (83) finished

tied for 26th in the same division.
