Girls basketball: West Torrance tops Tars
MISSION VIEJO - Five Newport Harbor High players scored in the
second quarter to help the Sailors take a 22-21 lead into halftime in the
second round of pool play Wednesday at the Jim Hill Memorial Tournament
at Mission Viejo High.
But West Torrance outscored the Tars, 17-2, in the third quarter, en
route to a 58-34 girls basketball victory.
“I don’t know what it is about halftime, but we seem to struggle in
the third quarter,” Newport Coach Jen Thompson said.
Evita Castillo and Lindsey Woller had 10 points apiece and Jillianne
Whitfield added nine for the Sailors. Castillo, a senior, also had a
team-high six rebounds.
Newport Harbor (1-8) concludes pool play Friday against El Toro at 7
