Justin Indyk has recently received a PhD in genetics from New York

University at Stony Brook. He is the son of Rebeca and Michael Indyk of

Huntington Beach. Indyk is a 1991 graduate of Edison High School where he

was a distinguished scholar. He attended UC San Diego and earned a

bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology in 1995, graduating Summa Cum

Laude. He is in his third year at Stony Brook Medical School and plans to

graduate with an MD degree in May 2003. . . . Huntington Beach resident

Bart McGrath’s 1972 red Ferrari 246 GT won the Best of Show award at the

second annual Holiday Classic Car Show and Pedal Car Invitational in

Costa Mesa. The recognition came with a $300 cash award. . . . Huntington

Beach resident Mike Bekins’s fire chief’s car won the award for Best

Pedal Car Restoration at the car show . . . . Army Pvt. Michelle Riley

has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

The nine weeks of training included instruction and practice in drill and

ceremony, rifle, marksmanship and armed and unarmed combat. Riley is a

2001 graduate of Liberty Christian High School. She is the daughter of

Carol and Andrew Wight of Huntington Beach. . . . Navy Ensign Deanna

Christensen recently reported for duty with Patrol Squadron 47, Marine

Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Christensen is a 1989 graduate of Bonita

High School in La Verne and a 1993 graduate of UC San Diego. She is the

daughter of Linda Christensen of La Verne and Michael Liebherr of

Huntington Beach.
