This concerns the article “City wants to share Huscroft House bill”

(Dec. 6). Costa Mesa looks to raise $200,000.

To me, it’s really simple. We’ve got all this Home Ranch project going

on. If the city was willing to sign a budget waiver agreement with the

local unions that all construction in the city of Costa Mesa would be

done by union labor, I’m sure they could probably get the unions to go

ahead and help raise the $200,000 that they need. It’s pretty simple

arithmetic. That’s just another avenue that they could pursue, and

besides, it would also protect the city from house overruns much to the

demise of what happened the last time John Wayne Airport was expanded and

the house overruns ran into almost seven figures. Just thought you’d like

to know.

Home Ranch opposition should let it go

Now can we get on with it? The Home Ranch project is as good as it’s

going to get, and it’s a quality project for the north side of the San

Diego Freeway. Maybe Jay Humphrey will stop banging his head against the

wall now, so he doesn’t end up with a headache when he tries for City

Council again.

Harbor columnist hitting his stride

Great last two harbor columns written by Mike Whitehead with the poem

and dream story. He has not only great insight on the boating world, but

now he has shown a creative side of writing that is of great

entertainment for us readers. Bring on more.
