Corona del Mar High’s Sea Kings made big strides toward the Pacific

Coast League girls water polo championship Wednesday with an 8-2

league-opening victory over visiting Laguna Beach.

Coach Aaron Chaney’s powerhouse, now 9-2 overall, nudged its way to a

4-2 halftime lead, then shut the Artists down completely in the second

half, scoring three times in the final period.

Seven different players shared in the scoring column, led by Christina

Hewko’s two goals.

Single tallies were chalked up by Alexa Miller, Daniela DiGiacomo,

Danielle Carlson, Brittney Bowlus, Jessica Harkins and Katya Eadington.

Jessica Wells was solid in the net for Corona del Mar, recording seven

saves.

Corona del Mar enjoyed an 11-5 edge in steals. Hewko and Carlson each

had three.

CdM outshot the Artists, 25-14.
