COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High girls soccer coach Dan Johnston said

his team played one of its worst games of the season and lost, 2-0, to

Pacific Coast League visitor Northwood Thursday.

The Timberwolves (2-0 in the PCL) scored a goal in each half, as the

Mustangs (8-4-1, 1-1) failed to find any rhythm.

“They beat us in every phase of the game,” Johnston said. “I was very

upset with my team. I told them, ‘We have a reputation for being scrappy.

Unfortunately, we left the S at home.’ ”

Johnston also said freshman Nilani Duarte contributed, “exceptional

play.”

The Mustangs will play at crosstown rival Estancia, Tuesday at 3:15

p.m.
