FREE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP: Ed Kohlmeier, past president of the Exchange

Club of the Orange Coast, has announced a new “Stand Up America” National

recruiting program that includes 90-day free trail membership if you join

Exchange before Feb. 1. For 90 days, all the new members are required to

pay for is their own lunch. Exchange is known as America’s service club

with its emphasis on Freedom Shrine, copies of important documents in

American history that are found in schools, libraries and city halls

across America. Exchange clubs also honor outstanding students,

firefighters, police officers and teachers in addition to supporting

Child Abuse Prevention Centers in Orange County and across the country.

The Exchange Club of the Orange Coast meets this Wednesday at noon at

the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club for a program by Kathryn Haze of the

Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center Adopt-a-Social-Worker

ROTARY VOLUNTEER HONORED: Earl Fusselman, a member of the Newport

Irvine Rotary Club, has been awarded the first-ever Paul Kennedy Award

for outstanding community service. At the age of 83, Fusselman is sure

that he has spent more time volunteering than working since retiring in

1988. His list of volunteer activities beside Rotary include the Newport

Beach Police Department, a hospice, Meals on Wheels and the American

Legion. Fusselman joined Rotary in 1944 following military service and

has been an active member for 57 years. The award is named after the late

Paul Kennedy, a Newport Beach attorney and a prominent Rotarian who

served as president of the Newport Irvine Rotary Club and as Governor of

Rotary District 5320 in 1982-83. The Newport-Irvine Rotary Club is one of

the largest Rotary Clubs in the area with 105 members and a broad list of

community programs including youth sports, college scholarships, aid to

abused children and exchange programs involving teachers and students in

Newport-Irvine and Japan.

TRIATHLON DATE SET: After a highly successful 2001 Triathlon

organized by the Newport Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis Club, in which

1,400 athletes participated, Kiwanian Bob Cuyler has announced that the

2002 Triathlon will take place Sun., July 14 at Crystal Cove State Park.

According to Cuyler, a Sports Expo will be held on Sat., July 13 and a

kid’s race maybe added.

SPIRITUALITY AND END OF LIFE CARE: The Rev. Don Oliver, chaplain at

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, will lead the Newport Mesa Irvine

Interfaith Council luncheon on Wednesday in a discussion of spirituality

and end-of-life care. The meeting is open to clergy, congregation members

and interested people, members of the council or not. The luncheon, which

begins at noon, is being held at the Hoag Hospital Conference Center on

the lower campus. Lunch is $7.50 with reservations, $10 without

TUESDAY -- 7:30 a.m.: The Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club will meet

at Five Crowns Restaurant for a program by Barbara Creighton, Valley

Vista High School.

6:30 p.m.: The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club will meet at the

Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club.

WEDNESDAY -- 7:15 a.m.: The 17-member South Coast Metro Rotary Club

will meet at the Center Club and the Newport Harbor Kiwanis Club will

meet at the University Athletic Club.

Noon: The Soroptimist International Newport Harbor will meet at the

Santa Ana Country Club for a special program meeting for prospective

members and the 35-member Orange Coast Exchange Club will meet at the

Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club for a program by Kathryn Haze of the Orange

County Child Abuse Prevention Center Adopt a Social Worker program.

6:00 p.m.: The 58-member Rotary Club of Newport Balboa will meet at

the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club to hear Newport Beach City Manager Homer

Bludau discuss the City in 2002 (o7 https://www.newportbalboa.orgf7 ).

THURSDAY -- 7:30 a.m.: The Costa Mesa-Orange Coast Breakfast Lions

club will meet at Mimi’s.

Noon: The Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa will meet at the Holiday Inn; the

Newport Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis Club will meet at the Bahia

Corinthian Yacht Club for a program by Tom Moon, author and former OSS

Agent, as he discussed “America’s Covert Actions;” the Exchange Club of

Newport Harbor will meet at the Riverboat Restaurant; and the Newport

Irvine Rotary Club will meet at the Irvine Marriott for a program on
