Boys soccer: CdM blasts Trojans

CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High boys soccer team has set

up a battle for first place in the Pacific Coast League after a 2-0 win

over visiting University Wednesday.

The Sea Kings (55-3, 2-0-1 in the PCL), who host co-league-leader

Costa Mesa Friday at 3:15 p.m., built a 2-0 first half lead. But CdM will

be without two key players, goalkeeper Geoff Collier and senior Aldo

Bautista, because of red card violations when the Sea Kings duel Mesa.

Bautista scored a goal off an assist from sophomore Julien Cerutti,

and Bautista also had an assist, which led to senior Brett Luchesi’s

goal.

Collier recorded four saves in the shutout.

“(The win) was tainted by a couple of players losing their composure,”

CdM coach Pat Callaghan said. “I hate to blame the referees, but they

lost a little control on what was a very physical game. (Uni) had a red

card, too, and a number of yellow (cards).”
