Supervisors approve JWA security upgrading

The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday unanimously

approved more than $4 million for a new security access network and an

upgrade to the fire alarm system.

The board awarded a $2.77-million contract to Siemens Building

Technologies Inc. to replace the network of keypad entry devices and

closed-circuit televisions.

The existing systems, installed in 1989, had become “technologically

obsolete,” according to a county staff report.

The new system would change entry devices at 150 doors and 20 gates on

the airfield and about 220 cameras in the terminal, parking structures

and airfield.

Siemens has also agreed to install 7,200 feet of fiber-optic cable to

support the new network.

The airport will pay for the project with an 80% share from the

Federal Aviation Administration and 20% in county funding.

Also, the board approved a $1.55-million payment to Johnson Controls

Inc. for upgrades to the fire alarms. The entire cost of that project

will be shouldered by county funds.
