Boys soccer: Estancia edged by Laguna, 5-4
LAGUNA BEACH - The Estancia High boys soccer team answered a 5-1
deficit but could not complete the comeback and lost, 5-4, to Pacific
Coast League host Laguna Beach Friday night.
Estancia junior Nikolai Doudtchenko scored an unassisted goal in each
half, while junior Ricardo Avila and senior Sergio Madrigal rang up
single tallies in the second half, when the Eagles were down, 5-1, with
30 minutes left.
Madrigal scored to make it 5-4 with 10 minutes remaining.
Senior goalkeeper Giovanni Gonzalez recorded eight saves for the
Eagles (3-10, 0-4 in the PCL.
“We finally broke out of the scoring slump,” Estancia Coach Steve
Crenshaw said. “We played hard the whole game. The early goals are what
hurt.”
