Boys basketball: Sage Hill rallies

CYPRESS - Visiting Sage Hill High erased a nine-point deficit after

three periods with a furious blitz to start the fourth quarter and

freshman Blake Brewer made a game-winning layup with five seconds left to

key a 44-42 Academy League boys basketball win over Brethren Christian

Tuesday.

Junior point guard Erik Williams, freshman Matt Loper and sophomore

Kevin Joyce each hit three-pointers within the first minute of the final

period to bring the the Lightning back.

Sophomore Mike Fitzhugh paced the winners (6-6, 3-2 in league) with 19

points and 10 rebounds, while Williams added 10 rebounds and three steals

to his seven points.

“This was big for us,” Sage Hill Coach Gordon McNeill said. “Whoever

won this game had the leg up on third place and I really hyped this game

to my players.”

Joyce had 12 points for the winners, who visit Calvary Chapel of

Downey Friday.
