Pair in critical condition after accident
Two passengers in a pickup truck that struck a tree in Huntington
Beach remain in critical condition at UCI Medical Center, police said
Wednesday.
Huntington Beach residents Sean VanAllen, 21, and Christopher
Costello, 22, were taken to the medical center after the truck they were
riding in struck a tree at 5:43 p.m. Monday near the intersection of
Delaware Street and Atlanta Avenue, police reported.
“As far as I know they’re still [doing fine] and in the hospital,”
said Sgt. Gary Meza.
Witnesses said the green pickup truck was traveling eastbound on
Atlanta Avenue at a high rate of speed. It turned north onto Delaware
Street and lost control, colliding with a tree, said Sgt. Mike Mello.
Huntington Beach Fire and Police crews arrived on scene to find that
Costello had been ejected from the truck and VanAllen was trapped inside,
police said.
“They had to cut VanAllen out of the vehicle,” Mello said.
No charges were filed against VanAllen or Costello and the
investigation into the accident is ongoing, police said.
