LAGUNA BEACH - The Corona del Mar High boys basketball team

outscored host Laguna Beach, 43-21, in the middle two quarters to key a

70-51 Pacific Coast League victory Friday.

“It was our best defensive effort of the year,” said CdM Coach Ryan

Curry, who credited an active zone and some full-court pressure to

helping energize his Sea Kings (5-18, 1-5 in league).

Kevin Mancillas (29 points) hit three of his seven three-pointers in

the third quarter, when Bret Matsen had 13 of his 24 points to help CdM

outscore the Artists, 24-10, to all but lock up the win.

Jay Northridge added 13 points for the winners.
