Men’s basketball: One for the records?

RIVERSIDE - Tonight could be the night UC Irvine senior guard Jerry

Green becomes the Anteaters’ all-time leading scorer, and the only person

that stands in his way will be watching.

The Anteaters take on host UC Riverside in a Big West Conference men’s

basketball matchup at 7:05 p.m.

Green needs just 20 points to tie current Riverside assistant coach

Tod Murphy, who sits at the top of UCI’s career scoring list with 1,778

points.

The Anteaters (14-6, 7-2 in the Big West) are tied with Cal State

Northridge for first in the conference standings. UCI is coming off a

50-47 loss to host Cal Poly Saturday.

Green scored a season-low seven points against the Mustangs, but still

leads the conference in scoring and is 22nd in the nation with a 20.8

points per game average.

In addition to Green, sophomore center Adam Parada (11.9 ppg, 6.6

rebounds per game) and sophomore forward Stanislav Zuzak (10.1 ppg, 5.1

rpg) will start.

“I think Adam and Stanislav have moved to another level of play,” UCI

Coach Pat Douglass said. “We said early on as we got through the year

that we thought that would happen and it has.”

Rounding out the starting line-up are junior forward Jordan Harris

(11.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and senior guard Mike Hood (8.8 ppg).

The Highlanders (6-11, 3-6) will counter with sophomore Vili Morton

(11.6 ppg, 8.5 rpg), who leads the Big West in field goal percentage

(60.9%).

Also looking to contribute will be junior forward John Galbreath (9.4

ppg).

UC Riverside is looking to rebound after losing road games to Cal

State Northridge and Pacific last week.

“We’re expecting a tough contest,” Douglass said. “We’re starting the

second half of league play and trying to go out and notch every win we

can get. The team that is the most consistent is the one that will win

the conference.”

In their last meeting, the Anteaters defeated the Highlanders, 72-53,

on Jan. 5 at the Bren Events Center.

Parada scored 20 points for UCI, currently ranked No. 7 nationally in

the NCAA with a .494 field-goal percentage.

The Anteaters are also ranked 12th in three-point field goal

percentage at .407.
