Chargers winning streak at lucky No. 7

The South Huntington Beach Chargers ran their league record to 7-0

Sunday by defeating visiting Fullerton, 58-34, in a boys National Junior

Basketball contest.

Despite not having leading scorer Taylor King in the lineup for the

second consecutive week, the Chargers still had plenty of firepower as

they opened up a 14-4 first-quarter lead.

T.J. Lipold topped the Chargers in scoring for the second straight

game with a game-high 26 points. Casey Becker and Michael Hardwick each

added 10 points.

Although the victory was the seventh of the season for the Chargers,

it extended their win streak to 29 games over the past three years.

South Huntington Beach has the next two weekends off and then returns

to action by visiting Monterey Park on Feb. 16. The Chargers host

Bakersfield on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 10:45 a.m.

Division II

Pistons 34, Team Green 23

The Pistons kept their grip on first place by defeating second place

Team Green. Scott Marcin led the way with 12 points and Andrew Davis

contributed nine for the Pistons. Conner Hughes led Team Green with nine

points.

Girls’ Division 1

South HB 65, East HB 24

The South Huntington Beach Chargers remained perfect at 8-0 Sunday by

topping their East Huntington Beach rivals.

Wahine Kepilino led the way with 25 points, which included a pair of

three-point baskets, Wendy Blyth added 10 points and two players, Lauren

Kaprielian and Elyse VanLeer, each had eight points.

8th-Grade All-Net

East HB 37, Tustin 23

Denise Willan recorded her first double-double of the season by

scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, Kayla Morgan turned in her

best performance of the season with nine points, four rebounds and three

steals and Kay-Dee Lane scored 10 points -- two of which came on a

40-foot, three-point basket at the first quater buzzer, as the Comets

(5-1) won at Ocean View High.
