Mustangs easy winners over Servite

LONG BEACH - Costa Mesa High’s boys basketball team, on a hot

streak in the Mustangs’ chase for a CIF Playoffs berth in the Pacific

Coast League race, took a day off for a nonleague matchup with Servite

Saturday at the Pyramid on the Long Beach State campus and ran roughshod

over the Friars, 69-53.

Chad Vakili, David Conte and Danny Krikorian delivered a dozen shots

from beyond the arc and scored 61 of the Mustangs’ points to propel

Mesa’s record to 16-9.

Vakili scored 26 points, with five three-pointers; Conte delivered 19

points and nine assists, with three treys; and Krikorian scored four from

the perimeter en route to 16 point.

Coach Bob Serven’s Mustangs had Servite down after one quarter, 20-6,

and it was essentially over by halftime with a 33-13 lead.
