Women’s basketball: UCI prevails

Wendy Gabbe scored 16 points to lead UC Irvine to a 60-46 victory

over Cal State Fullerton Sunday in a Big West Conference women’s

basketball contest at the Bren Events Center.

The Titans pulled within, 38-36, with 14:59 remaining, but UCI scored

the next eight points in less than a minute, including back-to-back

three-pointers by Gabbe, to take a 46-36 lead.

UCI (7-14, 4-6 in the Big West) led by at least 10 points the rest of

the way.

Gabbe made 4 of 6 three-pointers and had five rebounds, three assists,

four steals and a block.

Kristen Green added 13 points, followed by Cindy Oparah with 12 and

Christina Callaway with 10.

Oparah, who is ranked 21st nationally in rebounding, grabbed a

team-high eight boards.

Allyson Alhadeff paced the Titans (3-17, 1-8) with 10 points and four

assists in 25 minutes of action.
