Girls basketball: Eagles douse Artists, 67-42

COSTA MESA - The Estancia High girls basketball team accomplished
two goals in its 67-42 Pacific Coast League victory over visiting Laguna
Beach Tuesday.
Estancia Coach Paul Kirby said the Artists played physical, but the
Eagles (15-10, 8-1 in the PCL) never backed down.
“We wanted to come out of this with the win and injury free,” Kirby
said of Estancia’s goals before hosting University Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
“It’s tough to play against a team like that (and stay away from
injuries). They’re not that good.”
Laguna Beach, winless in the PCL, was outscored, 24-8, in the opening
quarter and never recovered.
Estancia sophomore point guard Trisha Wase scored a game-high 23
points, while juniors Tisha Gray and Xochitl Byfield added 13 and 10
points, respectively. Freshman Imelda Pena came off the bench and
contributed nine points.
