AYSO Region 120: Mesa cruises to victory

Costa Mesa shut out East Huntington Beach, 6-0, in AYSO Region 120

boys under-14 Silver All-Star pool play action.

Goalkeepers Matt Grella, Rigo Miranda and William Briseno dominated on

defense with support from Kyle Thorness, Josh Knauer and Blake Pinto.

Mesa struck in the first quarter with a goal from Trevor McDonald, who

scored on a pass from Pinto.

Moments later McDonald returned the favor with a cross pass that Pinto

kicked into the net for a goal.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Alberto Nava passed the ball

to Miranda to give Mesa a 3-0 lead.

In the third quarter, McDonald dribbled through the back field to

score and Alberto Nava added a goal on a direct free kick. Nava found the

back of the net again in the fourth quarter.

The Mesa offense was led by forwards Thomas Kosnosky, McDonald,

Miranda and Pinto with support from midfielders Kenneth Zich, Benny

Edles, Nava and Starnes Arnold.

In girls under-10 All-Star action:

* The G Force defeated North Irvine, 3-0, and fell to Newport Beach,

2-0, Saturday. Justine Cathey, Nushin Tasbihchi and Jeana DeArakal scored

goals against Irvine. Natalie Seckel and Allyson Wallace had assists.

Goalkeeper Jennifer Johnston earned the shutout. Misha Brown and Kendra

Fisher had strong performances against Newport Beach.
