AYSO Region 97: Breakers roll

The Newport Beach Breakers, a girls under-10 soccer team from AYSO

Region 97, increased their lead in the Gold Division of the Area Q

championships by winning two games Saturday.

The Breakers defeated Tustin, 3-0, and shut out Costa Mesa, 2-0.

Against Tustin, Tina Theriot opened the scoring with an unassisted

corner kick. Caroline Hardenbergh added the second goal and Missy

Fitzsimmons sealed the win with a goal late in the game.

Elizabeth Eddy and Zoya Farzaneh were solid in the midfield for the

Breakers, who outshot the competition, 15-1.

Against Costa Mesa, Hardenbergh scored two goals for the Breakers.

Kelly Heenan, Brianna Schwartz, Kasey DeYoung and McKenna Cottam played

well up front and Courtney Francis was solid in the net.

Terra Friedman and Marianne Jones dominated defensively.

The Breakers (19-1-1) outshot Costa Mesa, 12-2.
