OCC women romp

Orange Coast College’s women’s basketball team was a 72-40 winner

over visiting Irvine Valley Wednesday night as the Pirates improved to

18-8, 5-4 in the Orange Empire Conference.

Kyra Melville and Nancy Hatsushi, often the ringleaders in the

Pirates’ attack, led the way. Melville scored 18 points, hitting 6 of 9

from the field. Defensively she had seven steals. Hatsushi hit 4 of 4

from three-point range en route to 14 points. She added four assists and

three steals.

Coast had a 19-6 edge in steals, and in terms of three-point shooting,

the Pirates were 7 for 17. Irvine Valley was 1 for 15.

The Pirates jumped to a 31-17 lead at halftime and were never

threatened as Irvine Valley fell to 12-12, 3-6.
