Men’s basketball: Pirates upset Lasers, 71-69
COSTA MESA - Freshman forward Brice Buchanan of Orange Coast
College scored on a layup with 14 seconds left to lift the host Pirates
past Irvine Valley, 71-69, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s
basketball game Wednesday night.
Coach Steve Spencer’s Pirates (6-17, 3-6 in the OEC) made 13 of 23
from the field in the second half (57%), although they were outscored by
the Lasers, 38-34.
OCC was led by sophomore guard Ryan Webster, who scored 19 points and
hit 4 of 5 from beyond the three-point line. Mark Meyers, a sophomore
center, added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Bucs. Buchanan also had
13 points and six boards.
The Lasers, who fell to 18-8, 5-4, were led by Steve Scoggin’s 17
points. OCC travels Friday to Saddleback (7:30 p.m.).
