A four-car crash in Newport Beach on Wednesday afternoon left a man

injured and closed down an intersection for at least half an hour, police

said.

The collision happened at 12:10 p.m. at the intersection of Bristol

Street and Campus Drive when Waltraut Jechart, 69, of Newport Beach

reportedly ran a red light and broadsided a white Ford Taurus driven by

43-year-old Tony Trikounakis of Irvine, Sgt. Steve Shulman said.

The other two cars collided as a result of the initial crash, he said.

Trikounakis was taken to Hoag Hospital because he complained of pain

in his back and neck, Shulman said. No one else was injured, he said.
