Lowenberg receives Governor’s Excellence award
Huntington Beach Police Chief Ronald E. Lowenberg recently received an
award from Gov. Gray Davis for his lifetime of training students about
law enforcement.
Earlier this week Lowenberg took home the 2001 Governor’s Award for
Excellence in Peace Officer Training in the Lifetime Achievement category
from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Lowenberg was selected from a pool of 23 nominees from throughout
California and was recognized for his leadership, management and
mentoring of police chiefs during his 35-year law enforcement career,
which began at the Cypress Police Department in 1967.
He became Surf City’s chief of police in 1989, where he continues to
serve and teach certified courses such as the Supervisory Course,
Management Course and the Command College. Lowenberg was selected to be a
Peace Officer Standards and Training commissioner in 1989, by California
Gov. George Deukmejian. He served as a commissioner for three terms,
until 1998. He was also the commission chairman from 1991-92.
Awards will be presented by Gov. Davis at the Law Enforcement
Legislative Day in Sacramento.
