Girls basketball: Hawkins bright spot
CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High senior Carrie Hawkins, who had
missed the girls basketball team’s last 16 games with a knee injury,
closed out her varsity career with a five-point performance in the Sea
Kings’ 38-34 Pacific Coast League home loss to Northwood Thursday.
Hawkins, who started on senior night, was a highlight for the hosts
(7-18, 2-8), who came up short in their bid to knock Northwood out of its
third-place tie with Costa Mesa.
CdM Coach Elbert Davis said junior Madison Otterbein (a team-high 11
points) also played well for CdM, which saw a promising season ruined by
injuries, including a torn knee ligament that cost returning All-PCL
junior Jackie McCoy the final 19 games.
CdM seniors Andrea Gruber, Courtney Kawata, Naz Aletaha and Kelly Luu
also culminated their prep careers.
