Stuck at home? Let the library come to you
Newport Beach residents unable to travel to the library because of
temporary or long-term illness will now have the chance to take full
advantage of the services the library has to offer.
Through the Homebound Delivery Service, neighborhood volunteers will
take the library to them.
The Newport Beach Public Library’s new program will enable qualified
volunteers to deliver books, books on cassette and CD, and videos to
homebound patrons.
Volunteers will be trained in working with ill and disabled adults,
and in using the library.
The library is able to offer the service in conjunction with the U.S.
Institute of Museum and Library Services because of provisions of the
Library Services and Technology Act.

Pittsburgh ballet school to hold Saturday auditions
Auditions for the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School’s Intensive Summer
Program will be held Saturday at the Jimmie DeFore Dance Center in Costa
Mesa. The auditions are for dancers ages 12 and older. Registration will
begin at 5:30 p.m.
“The PBT School’s Intensive Summer Program is a well-rounded and
healthy program for the serious ballet student to further his or her
classical technique and individual artistry,” said Marjorie Thompson, the
Pittsburgh school’s director, in a press statement.
The summer program will introduce a series of workouts and seminars to
help dancers develop an awareness of their bodies and better training
techniques.
Musculoskeletal screenings will be offered by certified athletic
trainers and licensed therapists to evaluate dancers for any muscle
imbalances. Screenings will be conducted by appointment and for a minimal
fee.”Because of the student’s age, we need to take great care in keeping
their body healthy, as it is still growing and maturing,” Thompson said.
Some of the seminars will focus on nutrition, sport psychology, pointe
shoes, resume writing, stress management and dance history.
An application fee of $15 is due at the time of audition.
Eight-by-10-inch photographs are strongly suggested. Photographs for both
women and men should show a full body shot posed in first arabesque.
Women should be dressed in black leotard, pink tights and pointe shoes.
Men should wear black tights, white T-shirt, white socks and shoes.
The DeFore Dance Center is at 151 Kalmus Drive, Suite G3, Costa Mesa.
