Newport school awards IBM for partnership

Newport Elementary recently gave IBM the Corporate Partner Award for

its extraordinary service and contributions to the school.

The computer company has donated more than $100,000 in new computers

to the school over the past four years.

Big Blue has also contributed technical resources to enhance the

partnership.

The Corporate Partner Award is the brainchild of Principal Denise

Knutsen, who took over in 1998. The partnership continues to thrive as

IBM is committed to donating another $25,000 in new IBM ThinkPad’s for

each teacher to use by June.

The school foundation, which has raised more than $1 million in five

years, will put together a new fund-raising program to complement the new

IBM donation for teacher training.
