Youth soccer: Breakers clinch title

The Newport Beach Breakers soccer team clinched the championship

with two games remaining in Area Q Gold Division girls under-10 all-star

action.

The Breakers’ 5-2 victory over South Irvine sealed the championship

bid. Newport came on strong early with goals from Tina Theriot, Brianna

Schwartz and Kasey DeYoung to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

DeYoung notched her second goal early in the second half. Missy

Fitzsimmons added the fifth goal for the Breakers.

Also contributing to the Breakers’ win were McKenna Cottam, Elizabeth

Eddy, Zoya Farzaneh, Courtney Francis, Terra Friedman, Caroline

Hardenbergh, Kelly Heenan and Marianne Jones. The team is coached by Kirk

McIntosh.

The Breakers will represent Area Q in the sectional championships in

March.
