RIDGECREST - The Estancia High boys basketball team trimmed a

24-point deficit to seven with 1:49 left, but ran out of gas against host

Burroughs of Ridgecrest, which earned a 71-58 win in a CIF Southern

Section Division III-A first-round playoff clash Wednesday.

Estancia junior forward Lewis Bradshaw had 12 points and 15 rebounds

and freshman forward Carlos Pinto added a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds to pace the visitors (13-14).

Burroughs (13-9) was led by senior guard Travis Kincaid, who amassed

25 points, including several easy transition buckets and a trio of

three-pointers.

Senior guard Fernando Maldonado and 6-foot-7 junior center Joey

Lindquist added 12 points apiece for the Eagles, who were down, 37-17, at

halftime, then outscored the Burros, 41-34, after the break.

“This team overachieved the whole year,” said Estancia Coach Chris

Sorce, who lost All-Pacific Coast League and All-Newport-Mesa District

returning senior Micah Young for the season with a torn ACL in the second

game of the season.

“We made a very valiant effort in the second half, but it was just too

big a hole to overcome,” said Sorce.

“We have a lot to look forward to next year. Our kids got a taste of

what it’s like to be in the playoffs (after missing the postseason last

year). Now, it’s just a matter of how hard they want to work so that we

can go a little farther next year.”
