NEWPORT BEACH -- You don’t need to know the difference between a

birdie and a bogie to volunteer at the Toshiba Senior Classic.

But you will need to pony up $65.

Event organizers are still looking for volunteers to help with the

various committees for the tournament, which has raised more than $3.7

million for charity in the last four years.

This year, the event will take place March 4 through March 10 at the

Newport Beach Country Club.

The tournament is supported by the efforts of more than 1,000

volunteers who serve on more than 25 different committees.

“The people that volunteer really make this tournament work and are a

key part of both the charitable contribution and the outstanding field of

professional players who compete here each year,” said Jake Rohrer,

Toshiba Senior Classic chairman. “The players really enjoy coming here

because of the hospitality they receive.”

The committees with openings include the marshals, who maintain

spectator control on the golf course; course services, which distributes

refreshments, tournament magazines and other items throughout the course;

and credential verification, which mainly checks for proper credentials

at the hospitality areas.

Volunteers are required to work two days and are charged $65 to help

offset the cost of the volunteer package, which includes a weeklong

grounds badge for admission during the entire tournament and two

additional daily tickets for guests.

To get a volunteer application, call (949) 660-1001.
