Girls soccer: Los Altos see Kings

CORONA DEL MAR - Throughout the Corona del Mar High girls soccer

team’s season, a question has developed: What would happen if the Sea

Kings actually finished their scoring chances? Well, Los Altos found out

Saturday, when CdM ridiculously dominated the visiting Conquerors and

won, 6-0, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV

playoffs.

CdM (13-4-7), the three-time Pacific Coast League champions, outshot

Los Altos, 32-1, and the Conquerors (14-9-4) took that shot in the final

minute.

Sea King senior Kristin Hanson, just as the rest of the seniors,

approached the first round with extreme intensity and produced a hat

trick, scoring one goal in the first half and two in the second. CdM

juniors Elisha Morgan and Alivia Mazura posted one goal and one assist

each, while senior Allison Harvey scored off an assist from freshman

Tanisha Senaratne. Hanson and senior Jaclyn Thayer also dished out one

assist apiece.

“This is my last year and I want a ring,” Hanson said. “We came out

with a lot of heart and we were fired up. We want to win CIF. The last

two years, we’ve been so close and then we went out. We’re not going to

get out this time.”

The Sea Kings’ resounding victory advances them to the second round

Wednesday (3 p.m.) when they will travel to Ganesha, a 1-0 winner over

Ocean View.

“We did a good job of finishing,” CdM Coach Ron Evans said.

“Everybody’s head was into it. We have a great team and we showed it. We

broke them. Eventually they realized they weren’t going to win.”

CdM began the crumbling in the 23rd minute, when Hanson started the

scoring. Morgan added another goal, eight minutes later, after a corner

kick from Lauren Shepherdson and an assist from Hanson. Seven minutes

after that, Senaratne found Harvey for a 3-0 lead. Harvey, last year’s

PCL co-Most Valuable Player, entered the game three minutes before

scoring after sitting out the game’s first 35 minutes.
